The recently founded appellation Rocia rosso DOC provides us with the opportunity to show how the Sangiovese grape variety marries with the terrain and climate of the Val d'Orcia in southern Tuscany.
The outcome is "Abelardo", Orcia rosso DOC.
Production area: Municipality of Montalcino
Grape variety: 100percent Sangiovese
Maximum grape yield: 8000 kilos per hectare
Release: from 1st March of the year following the harvest
Color: Deep red with purple reflections#Nose: Intense aromas with good persistence; a fine nose with hints of cinnamon and ripe cherries
In the mouth: dry, warm and smooth, with pleasant freshness; fairly pronounced tannins, plenty of structure and good overall harmony
Alcohol content: 14.33°
Total dry extract: g/l 32 (aprox.)
Bottled after filtering and aged in the bottle for at least three months before release
Bottles: In 0.75 and 1.5 liter Bordeaux style bottles
Production is 7000 bottles
Food match: Marries well with traditional Sienese dishes, but is also versatile enough to accompany more inventive cuisine
Should be served at a temperature of around 18°C in fine, full-bodied stemware.
